Ohio’s First Casino Opens Up – Horseshoe Casino Cleveland
Posted by Admin on May 15, 2012 at 7:36 am | Last modified: May 15, 2012 7:36 amOhio’s first casino has many gamblers lined up hoping to get lucky. The casino is potentially posing a threat to casinos in nearby states and it has promised a boost to downtown Cleveland. Horseshoe Casino Cleveland opened to the public at 9:30 p.m. on Monday.
To test the slot machines and roulette wheels, there were hundreds of people lining up more than four hours early, but they were admitted behind winners of an early-admission online sweepstakes and VIP guests.
Vice president and assistant general manager, Brad Hirsch said that to shake off first-night jitters, dealers, mostly rookies hired from the area and were skillful in a dry run. He added that the dealers did exceptionally well and this is a group that has been training for four and five months on a new career and they did outstanding.
Razidus Conard, 33, of Cleveland, said that his routine of traveling to casinos in Detroit, Erie, Pa., and Chester, W.Va would now change with the convenience of the hometown casino. He added that it is right here where he lives and it is easy to access.
Watching police cordon off traffic lanes around the casino, Craig Jordan, 54, of Cleveland said he expects the casino to help the city’s economy but doubts he can afford to gamble. He added that he believes it probably will work out.
With backers promising new jobs and opponents warning about more gambling addicts, Ohio voters in 2009 approved casino gambling at four sites in the state. Casinos in Cincinnati and Columbus are set to open by next year and a casino in Toledo will open in two weeks.
On Monday, a group of unions announced that they had reached an agreement with the operators of the Cincinnati and Cleveland casinos that will allow workers there to be represented by a union of their choice. The Cleveland casino has about 2,100 slot machines, 63 table games, a 30-table World Series of Poker room and a VIP lounge. The casino expects 5 million visitors a year.
Rock Gaming developed the casino with Caesars Entertainment. It is led by Dan Gilbert. He owns the NBA’s Cleveland Cavaliers. He is managing day-to-day operations and brands that include Harrah’s, Bally’s and Flamingo.
Head of the Downtown Cleveland Alliance, which promotes the city, Joe Marinucci, said that the city is revved up to create a good first impression for people who maybe have not been downtown in a generation.

Blackjack is the most popular, the most talked-about game of the casino. There are numerous legends and myths related to blackjack. It has been a complicated thing for experts to get rid of them, no matter how hard they try. In order to win at blackjack, you have to separate the blackjack truth from the blackjack myth.
Blackjack Myth #1: 10 is the dealer’s hole card
Many players believe that dealer’s hole card is 10. All it will do is deplete that fat bankroll you are carrying and this is an extremely poor advice that many beginning players sometimes use.
Blackjack Myth #2: To win, get as close to 21 as possible
Blackjack is also sometimes called as the game of 21 and this is why, this popular mistaken belief. New players believe that getting close to 21 is essential and they assume that is their main goal of the game.
Blackjack Myth #3: Insurance is considered a bad Blackjack bet
Insurance bet is an attractive one and it is another popular blackjack myth. When the dealer is dealt an ace and you will be better off by keep your betting hand away from your money.
Blackjack Myth #4: Run of cards changes by a new deck
Apparently, one can always blame the cards themselves, if one cannot blame the dealer. This is a big myth that new deck of cards is somehow capable of positively influencing play; there is an unrelenting belief amongst many blackjack players, which is wrong.
Blackjack Myth #5: I am due to win
The dealer has won five hands in a row and I will bet up to recover my losses. This is myth. The truth is cards do not give a flip that you have lost the last five hands in a row. Do not bet that you are due to win based upon what has occurred, over the short haul.

Posted by Admin on May 14, 2011 at 4:06 am | Last modified: May 14, 2011 9:38 am
A big dent was delivered by a blackjack player on the Tropicana Casino and Resort results in April. Of all Atlantic City’s casinos, the Tropicana reported the lowest results, although revenue was down across the board by 7 percent.
At the Tropicana Casino-Hotel, the unnamed high roller won an astonishing 5.8 million. In the casino’s history, this was the largest single win.
Tropicana ‘s high stakes table games have been the main focus of their casino operations for a successful strategy in six of the last seven months and this is the irony of their bad month. With the $5.8 million beating they took from a single patron, things seem to have backfired.
A spokesman for the state Casino Control Commission, Daniel Heneghan said that since the inception of casino gambling in 1978, the proportion of the Tropicana’s loss was unprecedented in the state. He added that it is extraordinarily unusual for a casino to lose money in a particular month at the game of blackjack. Heneghan has worked for the commission for 15 years.
The last month that Atlantic City had higher casino revenue was August 2008. Gov. Chris Christie created a new state-run Tourism District in hopes of revitalizing the casino industry and Atlantic City’s economy, and he has overhauled New Jersey’s gaming regulations. Caesars Entertainment Corp., owner of the Bally’s, Caesars, Harrah’s and Showboat casinos in Atlantic City praised for those efforts.

Posted by Admin on April 29, 2011 at 10:51 am | Last modified: June 20, 2011 6:31 pm
The Horseshoe Casino Cincinnati opening has now been pushed back to 2013. While waiting to hear back from Governor John Kasich, casino developer Rock Gaming has had to put a key part of the project on hold and the company is waiting to place a large order of steel.
Governor Kasich has said that he needs time to study the taxes and fees to make sure taxpayers get the best deal possible. He said those fees could increase the state’s cut of the profits. The casino is expected to attract six million visitors to downtown each year, and will employ more than 1,500 people. Though, developers say it could force them to scale back the project and fewer games could mean fewer jobs.
Featuring 2,300 slot machines and 72 gaming tables, project plans currently call for a 350,000 square foot casino. There would be a World Series of Poker room, a high limits area, and a VIP players lounge. The complex would have three street side restaurants, an additional food court with regional food fare and a main floor bar. A second floor would offer about 33,000 square feet of meeting, event and entertainment space.
After a meeting of the city’s Urban Design Review Board, Rosenthal’s comments came and an advisory committee charged with endorsing an exterior design that would mesh with downtown.
Even though panel members said they would like to see more renderings, specifically from different points of view, they generally praised the casino’s design. Renderings so far have mostly depicted the casino from its front entrance along Reading Road looking east.

Posted by Admin on April 12, 2011 at 11:13 am | Last modified: May 14, 2011 8:05 am
On Thursday a Senate committee promptly listed a bill that required legalizing live blackjack games in Montana and using the permitting fees for the care of unfortunate and disabled persons. The bill faced a wall of opposition on Thursday from bar owners and others who warned the card game would increase crime and gambling addiction in the state.
Blackjack differs from games presently offered in Montana casinos and opponents argued that since it is a house banked game, meaning players make their bets against the casino rather than each other.
Many bar owners told the committee that if the bill passed, the large amount of money needed to run blackjack tables would put small casinos at a disadvantage. By Republican Tony Belcourt, D-Box Elder, likely killing it for the session, the Senate Finance and Claims Committee voted 13-6 to table House Bill 423.
While some tavern owners and longtime opponents of gambling expansion spoke against it, nobody appeared to testify in favor of the bill at a hearing earlier in the day.
Belcourt likes to fly to Las Vegas and play blackjack that he told to the committee. He said he’s trying to add one more legal game to keep some dollars in Montana and generate some additional money for human services. The legislator said he owns a bar, although that his tavern business is down since the state ban on smoking in bars and casinos took effect in October 2009.

Posted by Admin on February 17, 2011 at 11:40 am | Last modified: June 20, 2011 6:30 pmA couple of years ago, Las Vegas Sands was on the brink of falling apart financially. Sheldon Adelson, the CEO of Sands, at the time made a bet to determine whether the company went bankrupt or prospered. For Adelson and the company, the bet turned into a gold mine.
While Adelson took billions of his own money and poured it into a casino complex in Macau, other gaming companies were folding. Over the past several years, the properties that Adelson owns have proven to be his saving grace. Macau casino revenue records are being broken on a monthly basis and revenue is at an all-time high.
In Singapore, the success of the Macau casinos led Adelson to take another gamble. Adelson believes there is more expansion to be done in Macau as the Asian gaming market continues to grow. Marina Bay Sands has been raking in revenue since last April. It was built in Macau. In April last year, the 5.5 billion Marina Bay Sands, which started operations, is now the world’s second most expensive after MGM’s CityCenter in Las Vegas.
Earlier this month, boosted by above-normal table game winnings, Las Vegas Sands said its Singapore casino had earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) of $306 million in the fourth quarter. Since its soft opening in April last year, the casino has attracted some 11 million visitors and generated $241.6 million in EBITDA in the third quarter.
To keep the company moving forward, Adelson believes that not only Asian expansion is necessary but expansion in other areas of the world. For future Sands expansion, Spain has become a target and the plans for Spain are even bigger than in Singapore.
The casino mogul would like to create a gambling strip in Europe with his Sands company. All of the expansion talk is warranted, with gambling as popular as it ever has been. For the fourth quarter of the last fiscal year, Sands’ Singapore casino had over $300 million in earnings. Adelson is looking into acquiring more land to accommodate expansion plans, although the casino resort does not have enough land currently to expand.?

Posted by Admin on February 1, 2011 at 12:02 pm | Last modified: June 20, 2011 6:31 pmNew Jersey Governor Chris Christie said that he has spoken with Morgan Stanley officials to create jobs and stimulate growth by reviving construction of the Atlantic City Revel casino resort.
Owner of the world’s largest brokerage, Morgan Stanley invested about $1.2 billion into the project, then as the casino industry stagnated, wrote down 97.7 percent of its value. In 2009, construction was suspended.
In an interview today at Bloomberg headquarters in New York, Christie said that his version for Atlantic City has been that Atlantic City needs to become Las Vegas of East and it needs to become a place that caters to summer vacation business and convention business.
To oversee a state-run Tourism District covering the city’s Boardwalk, Marina District and other tourism-related sites, the governor has agreed to allow the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority. In the bill, boundaries of the proposed district are set, although within 90 days the plan becomes law, it may be changed. The bill removes rules on minimum staffing levels at casino tables and eliminates the requirement that state gaming inspectors be present at casinos at all times.
Christie noted in his veto letter that two bills (S-11 and A-3581) have directed the establishment of the Atlantic City Tourism District and have passed in the Legislature, transfers ACCVA and its functions to the agency and broadens the powers and duties of the CRDA. Both pieces of legislation are awaiting governor’s action.
Neither the authority nor the governor’s office has made the casino’s application available, although the state Economic Development Authority is supposed to vote Tuesday on the incentives. Revel and Atlantic City face major challenges, despite the state’s enthusiasm.

Posted by Admin on January 8, 2011 at 9:22 am | Last modified: January 8, 2011 9:22 amThe B.C. government says the province’s minister in charge of gaming and it is prepared to tighten regulations to prevent exploitation of casinos by organized crime. Documents obtained by CBC News have revealed that between May and August 2010 at some Lower Mainland casinos, $8 million in unusual transactions were reported to gaming authorities.
After the transactions occurred, the RCMP were informed and they believed the 90-day spike in questionable transactions is for money-laundering activity by organized-crime groups, indicating the casinos had been targeted.
In a release Rich Coleman said that the issue of whether or not a cash transaction should be reported as large or suspicious, it does deserve greater attention and he is prepared to do the same. He added that to continue to enhance training, they are prepared to take steps. This training will make casino staff better equipped to properly identify suspicious transactions. This will allow them to report the police instantly and such criminal type of activity can be checked.
Staff in the Ministry of the Solicitor General said that in Canada, B.C.’s enforcement activities and safeguards are among the toughest. This was the reply to Mr. Coleman’s remarks.
Players need to prove their identity before they can make cash in chips of more than $10,000 or large cash transactions over a 24-hour period. In addition, for larger bills, regulations in B.C. Do not allow patrons to exchange small denomination bills. on the casino floor, players are not allowed to pass chips to each other and casinos do not offer credit or cash checks. B.C. casinos are permitted to issue checks only for verified winnings, unlike some other jurisdictions in Canada.
With how gaming is operated, NDP gaming critic Shane Simpson says there is a huge problem. In his opinion, two things should be kept as different identities i.e. promoting and trying to grow gambling as much as one can and the other is to regulate the same in a way that it is issued in public interest. He added that there are many areas, which needs improvement. He said that new types of chips should be introduced which can be tracked, with better identification models and limiting the amount of transactions. Gangsters using untraceable chips as currency are one of the biggest problems. At the end of February, the government report will be released.
